Abstract
Corresponding to the ever changing and competitive environment in today’s globalized world, organizations in almost all kinds of industries have realized the vital necessity to continuously assess and improve their performance, thus stimulating the creation of many management tools and methods aiming at providing frameworks based on which organizations determine their resources allocation and prioritization of initiatives in order to achieve their strategic goals respectively. In 2012, Erwin Nataniel conducted a thesis project in which he utilized the platform of the widely-recognized Balanced Scorecard (BSC) to produce a strategy map with subsequent strategic objectives and performance indicators for units in departmental level in the Faculty of Engineering of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Contextualized to the philosophy of educational industry, Nataniel established the following perspectives in regards to the organization’s strategy map: Service, Customer, Internal Business Process, Learning and Growth. This project serves as a further development of Nataniel’s, mainly in the scope of development of a dashboard application as a tool for reporting performance measurement in the Department of Industrial Engineeering, Faculty of Engineering, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. In the preliminary stage of this project, researcher had conducted efforts to classify indicators obtained from the previous project based on their characteristics to become the ones called Performance Indicators (PI) and Result Indicators (RI), which eventually led to the determination of key indicators namely Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Key Result Indicators (KRI). Although theoretical guides to determine key indicators exist in various literatures, in practice, most of the process conformed to the need of decision makers in the organization, which might or might not take the theoretical guide into consideration. The main stage of this project revolves around the development of dashboard application using Microsoft Office Excel 2007. There are three layers of a dashboard design: database, analysis, and presentation. A dashboard’s main objective is to provide a graphical presentation regarding the actual performance of the organization on various aspects against the targeted measure. In this project, performance measurement is presented both numerically In a scorecard and graphically in a dashboard. The main tool used to analyze the data in this application is Excel PivotTable.
