Isi artikelThe effects of the orientation of knowledge maps on learning were examined in this study. Twenty eight participants were randomly assigned to study from knowledge maps presented vertically (top to bottom) or horizontally (from left to right). Participants were then asked to answer a series of questions about the studied materials. The performance of high and low vocabulary participants in the two experimental groups was evaluated. Questions involved five different kinds of information : declarative, bottom-up, negative, integration, and inference. Performance on the different types of questions was not uniform. Low vocabulary participants who used linear maps performed more poorly than any other group.
