Liver transplantation is the mainstay therapy for liver cirrhosis, but it has several disadvantages such as donor shortage and possibility of rejection. These disadvantages motivate scientists to find a new alternative such as stem cell. Stem cell brings new hope with its ability to differentiate into many kinds of cells. Stem cell is induced with specific cytokines which then differentiate into new hepatocytes and improve the liver function. Nowadays, stem cell therapy for liver cirrhosis has reached human clinical trials, but only few scientists have used enough samples and longterm follow up with the patients. For the knowledge of the best type of stem cell and the best non invasive method to a safe and effective stem cell therapy has not been found.
