Isi artikelEnglish is an international language that is used in all hotel signs around the world beside the language of the countries where the hotels are located. The attempts to translate or rewrite the message in English sometimes cause humorous sentences. Humor is based on incongruity theory in which everything that is inconsistent or incongruous can potentially cause smiles or laughter. Lexical ambiguity and syntactic ambiguity are two potential ways to create humor. This paper will analyze the ambiguities of various hotel signs that make them funny and amusing
