This article focuses on doing a structured interview with professional secretaries to plan the needs analysis in order to design a syllabus for the English for Secretary course offered by the Faculty of Education, English Department, Atma Jaya. The fact that the job of secretary is a career choice of many of its undergraduates has been proved, among others, by the opening of the course every semester. Therefore, a comprehensive syllabus based on the experiences of the specialists who have been doing their job professionally for a period of time, and thus, who know what is really required by the job needs to be developed. This article briefly discusses the needs analysis in ESP, the structured interview as one method of planning the needs analysis, the result, and the tentative syllabus
