Isi artikelInterpreting the semantic properties of nouns, adjectives and verbs, three major parameters are commonly used, i.e. Morphology, Syntax and Semantics parameters (Givón, 1984, Payne, 1997, Whaley, 1997, Bromley, 1981). These three parameters are suitable to carry out an analysis of such a phenomenon in Papuan languages, including Central Yali, of Trans New Guinea Phylum. Central Yali is a language spoken by approximately 15,000 native speakers in the central highlands of New Guinea, north to east of the Dani speaking area around Balim valley. Central Yali is a complex morphological language of which most grammatical categories occupy inflectional processes. One significant way to interpret the boundary among nouns, adjectives and stative verbs is to study morpho-syntax characteristics and to analyze semantic properties of those categories. Central Yali demonstrates morphological agreement between identical prefixed-possessor forms and major root of nouns, adjectives and stative verbs. Morphologically to this point, whether adjectives and verbs employ noun-like characteristic as they are possessed as nouns do. However, to distinguish nouns, adjectives and stative verbs, suffix markers indicating time reference support the lexical semantic interpretation of nouns, adjectives and stative verbs.
