Major depressive disorder is expected to be the leading cause of global burden of disease by 2020. Antidepressants, together with psychotherapy, remain the main thrust of management of this condition. Desvenlafaxine, an antidepressant, is a new entrant into the class of drugs known as serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, which are used in the treatment of mood disorders, including major depression.
