Isi artikel
A thorough evaluation of pregnancy loss can lead to an accurate diagnosis in a high percentage of cases. Important evaluation tools include a clinical history, examination of the fetus, a karyotype, skeletal radiographs, photographs, an autopsy, and examination of the placenta and cord. Recognition of the various causes and clinical presentations of fetal death can aid in choosing appropriate diagnostic tests and in accurate recurrence risk counseling. These causes include chromosomal abnormalities, recognizable malformation syndromes and associations, skeletal dysplasias, twinning, immunologic abnormalities, infection, and prenatal teratogenic exposures.
