After a string of negative nemws stories on Indonesia's faltering anti-corruption effort, the new year was off a more promosing stratt. In the first week of 2010, the corruption crimes court in Jakarta finally senteced Oentarto Sindung Marwadi, a former Director General for Regional Autonomy in the Home Affairs Ministry, to three years in jail for his involvement in a corruption scheme related to the procurement of fire engines in the province pf Riau Island in 2003. Observers of the trial see a fair chance that Hari Sabarno, Home Affairas Minister between on going case as may Ismet Abdullah, the current gorvenor of The Riau Islands province.
