Performance appraisal is potentially one way in which the efforts of lecturers can be aligned with the aims of teaching-learning process. However, there are still several deficiencies which can be found in the current appraisal instrument. This small-scale study is aimed to design a complementary appraisal instrument using the behaviorally anchored rating scale (BARS) method. Thirteen lecturers are participated in constructing and selecting the criteria for the appraisal instrument at Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia in South Jakarta. Result of the study produced a complementary appraisal instrument, with five important criteria and twenty specific behavioral examples. In conclusion, the complementary appraisal instrument facilitates the standard description of behavior measurement in its criteria. |
