Isi artikelUnlike Paulo Freire and Ivan Illich s criticisms which emphasize change in the education system and government So domination as formal school controller, Krisnamurti emphasizes more individual mind changes called inward revolution. Education plays an important role in changing the human mind, which leads to social transformation and the actualization of a new society. The change can take place if the learning process is not only a transfer of knowledge, but also a process of understanding the self. Moreover, the students and the teacher should befree, happy, loving and caring, where scientific mind and religious mind are inseparable and should be realized simultaneously. Krishnamurti believes that inward revolution is the first and the most important thing to do in actualizing a new society. External change is only a modification that needs jitrther changes, and is not the real change itself. Krishnamurti s thoughts about education can inspire formal schools that do not pay much attention to educating human as a whole. A criticism of Krishnamurti s proposal is: the absence of competition and comparison among students. This is inapplicable to formal schools as they implement examinations and scoring to evaluate student s academic progress.
