Cutting tool is an important element in the machining process. Innovation in machining is more advanced from time to time. Many parts on a machine that has a complex geometry, as well as a fairly high tolerance depend on the function. There are parts that cannot be processed with conventional cutting tool, or can be processed with conventional cutting tool but caused a long cycle time so the engine operating costs will swell. For this reason a special cutting tool is required. So in this thesis will study how to design a special cutting tool to improve the efficiency of the machining process. The method that used in this study is the experimentally method by designing and making a special cutting tool, and then compare its performance with conventional cutting tool. From the results of the study, the machining process with a special cutting tool has a shorter cycle time and the geometry is more appropriate than the conventional cutting tool. |
