It aims at describing phonological variations of the four dialects based on the data from the Lamaholot speakers who live in Melbourne, Australia. The four investigated dialects are Lewolema, Waibalun, Nusa Tadon and Lewokukung. Results show that (2) the trill- veolar sound [r] in Lewolema, Waibalun dan Nusa Tadon regularly corresponds with the palatal sound [?] in Lewokukung. (3) Although Nusa Tadon, Waibalun and Lewolema are classified into the same group, it does not mean that they share totally similar sound changes as Waibalun shows a prominently internal variation. (4) in term of final nasal consonants, there is a symmetric pattern of nasal loss ranging from the Lewokukung up to Waibalun but has been stable in Lewolema. Moreover, it clearly shows a typical reduction of phonological variation in the interdialectal situations in Lamaholot which slowly but regularly occur. |
