Isi artikel
The dominant story of family therapy, handed down since the 1970s, described brave, creative, action-oriented individuals struggling against repressive tradition to change families’ lives. This dramatic story once drew positive responses from professionals and clients but now seems anachronistic as family counseling has become an accepted part of the community. Contemporary practice emphasizes continuity, caring, connection, and diversity in goals and methods. A collaborative retelling of the authors’ professional identity story offers couple and family counselors an opportunity to discover new ideas and rediscover collaborative approaches with deep historical roots.
