Globalization is a rapid transformation that affects the liason between nations. It began with the international economic growth with a tendency to form economic integration, including trading block covering trades issues on goods, services, and investments. The international economic is followed with technology and information development that ease communicatin and information access, which erases country's borders. Globalization also covers the political changes and national security with the existence of issues that crosses borders, for instance cross border crimes, energy security, environment, and others where the handling requires collective cooperation, in terms of bilateral, regional, or even multiteral. Globalization affects political and economic development in Indonesia, for instance excess of monopoly and free market that results in the scarcity of fuel for domestic needs, press freedom, and others. On the contrary, Indonesia's politics during the "reformation era" also affects and changes foreign perspectives and policies as well as the international society towards Indonesia, such as the 2004 presidential election that went on peacefully, and resulted in Indonesia being viewed as the most democratic country in Asia, especially in Southeast Asia. This paper analyzes globalization effects towards the political changes in Indonesia and vice versa. How Indonesia handles with the impact of globalization and uses the opportunity given.
