The authors describe perimenopause and the symptoms associated with this life transition that may affect women’s sexual functioning. Specifically, issues of sexual desire and arousal are discussed in the context of biological changes and the psychosocial responses that often accompany aging. A number of interventions that therapists might use to normalize the client’s experience, change behavior, and change cognitions are described.
