Internet users always increase every year along with the development of information technology. This makes new media industry adding their products to enhance the variety of its content. On the other hand, multinational company wants to expand its business by adding its product in new markets. One of the international business strategy is acquisition. Through acquisition, the multinational company could enter the new market more easily than building the subsidiary. This research provides an insight about social network based on location and the acquisition of its product to be a content of the other digital media that previously focus on portal web. The researcher wants to observe the motives of the acquisition and the strategic approach of the acquisition that is reflected in the acquisition process. This research is using qualitative descriptive method and focusing on case study. The data is obtained through in-depth interview from the informants, observation and some documents as secondary data. In data analysis, the data from the sources is reduced to prevent the repetitive data, categorized, and concluded. The researcher uses triangulation data to obtain the validity and reliability of data. The research finds that the main motive of acquisition is the growth of company. Yahoo! as the acquirer company, wants to grow its market share through adding its product, namely, social network. Koprol as the acquired company, wants to grow its product. This research findings also provide the strategic approach that is reflected in the acquisition process of Yahoo! Koprol. |
