Abstract
Wind energy is one that has availability of abundant energy in nature, but their utilization in Indonesia is still lacking. Wind energy can be harnessed by using wind turbines that convert wind energy into mechanical energy or electrical energy. In order for the performance of wind turbines is more optimal, then in this thesis will study about the effect of the blade number on the performance of Savonius type vertical wind turbine model. The method used in this study is experimental by comparing the rotation and the torque generated by the wind turbine rotor with 2 blades, 3 blades and 4 blades on wind speed 1-10 m / s. From the research, wind turbine rotor with 3 blades have the highest rotational speed and tip speed ratio that the highest tip speed ratio is 0,555 while the highest wind turbine rotor with 4 blades have the greatest torque. Rotor with little number of blade have maximum ???? in high tip speed ratio while the rotor with a lot number of blades have maximum ???? in low tip speed ratio.
