Generative grammarians believe that Noam Chomsky, an out-standing linguist in America, has triggered a scientific revolution in linguistics. Their belief is based on linguistic development, where structural approach is abandoned in favour of generative transformational grammar. I argue that what Chomsky has done in linguistics is not a scientific revolution due to the fact that most of Chomsky's ideas have been introduced by geniuses in the Renaissance. Even linguisic term such as linguistic competence, performance, deep structure, surface structure, and creativity in language use, are adopted by Chomsky from Port Royal Grammarians such as Descrates, Juan Huarte, and Wilhelm von Humbolt who lived in "the century of the geniuses".
