| In this study, the writer compared and contrasted Indonesian proverbs to English proverbs to investigate to what extent Indonesian and English proverbs can be considered as correspondence and the factors which cause the differences between Indonesian and English proverbs. In accordance with Zhang?s (2004) and Zhang?s (2010) classification system, the Indonesian and English proverbs were classified into three categories which were correspondent proverbs, non-correspondent proverbs, and different proverbs. Despite of the differences which were caused by many factors, such as images and cultural tint, surprisingly, the writer found numerous Indonesian and English proverbs which were correspondent. |
