Isi artikelPemphigus is an auto-immune disease, characterized by bullous formation on the skin. The antibody is directed against keratinocyte component, desmoglein (Dsg) 1 and 3. Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and foliaceus (PF) are the most frequent type. Anti-Dsg 1 is the major antibody in PF, meanwhile anti-Dsg 3 is the major antibody found in PV. There are two subtypes in PV, which are mucosal type and musosutaneus type. The clinical manifestation in PV is determined by the antibody profile. Finding the antibody is the gold standard for diagnosis for decades, but now Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay ELISA is getting more attention for diagnosis of pemphigus, because its ability to differ the antibody profile, thus the subtypes of pemphigus can be differentiated, and also its positive correlation with the clinical course, that can be used to determine the treatment management.
