The discussion on the status and the role of women in our society has become a controversial topic. Some have the opinion that women have to keep silence in public meeting and submit to their husband. Sometimes this opinion is supported by cultural values in our society. But some have objection to this opinion and assert that men and women have the same status. We can also find the similar controversion about the status and role of women in Israelites' society found in the Bible. In this paper, I will explore the Biblical passages related to the status and role of women. Furthermore, I will give a specific attention to some controversial passages regarding the status of women in the Old and the New Testament. Finally, I will give my own opinion about this controversial topic from a theological point of view.
