Legislative elections were held on December 2, 2007, for seats in the State Duma, the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia, United Russia, the party whose proportional-repsentation list was headed by Presiden Vladimir Putin, won 70% of the seats up for election. In all the pro-Putin forces, including other parties, captured 87% of the Duma, offering a vivid demonstration of Putin sweeping influence.
