Pram's Gadis Pantai and Arswendo's Canting were two very interesting novels. The phenomenon in the two novels described a comprehensive explanation about oppression experienced by women in priayi institution. This research aims to find the position and role of women in priayi institution describe in both novels and to analyze them from socialist feminism view. Gadis Pantai and Bu Bei were trapped in a circle of unfair gender relationship caused by patriarchal and social system in Javanese community. They had no power to get their own right and it made them more and more trapped in the patriarchal oppression system. The women in both novels had to devote entirely to their husband who are priayi. Their husband and javanese system demanded the women hold their husband charisma with undivided devotion, loyalty, and pasrah that ought the women sink into patriarchal and social oppression system depply.
