Isi artikelThe characteristics of professional support lawyers, who for personal reasons have decided that the extended hours worked by fee-earners who service clients directly are no longer attractive, are noted. The way in which large law firms employ professional support lawyers as well as library services is discussed with particular reference to the degree to which these professional support lawyers and librarians interact. Encouragement is given to the provision of external support for professional support lawyers, particularly through the agency of support groups. It is noted that the Library Association (LA) and Institute of Information Scientists (IIS) have shied away from promoting this type of support but one group that is close to the needs of support lawyers is the City Information Group (CiG), a sub-group of the IIS. It is concluded that librarians and information professionals must become more dynamic and proactive if a more allinclusive service is to be provided.
