This is a report of a research conducted in two different in Java during the 1982 General Election in Indonesia. This research is primarily interested in studying what made GOLKAR gained more voters in one village than the other. The outcome of this study suggests that certain factors played significant roles in constituting the success of GOLKAR in one of these two villages. These factors include the vitality of the village heads who are generally young and well-educated; the solid coordination among these village heads; the split of the Islamic groups; and the fact that a number of former members of the Indonesian Communist Party (now illegal) have been made to vote GOLKAR.
