Isi artikelThe debate about the relative merit of laboratory experiments and everyday memory research has suffered from lack of agreement on what is meant by everyday. It is suggested, in agreement with Banaji and Crowder (1989), that the critical difference between these research approaches is the degree of control of extraneous variables. The value of everyday research is in what it can offer to replace reduced control-the availability of data that could not be obtained in a laboratory, suggestions or areas that are worthy of controlled study, and potentially, new phenomena.
