Abstract
English, in which one of the components is reading skill, is not a new subject in Indonesia. Reading is such an important skill. Teaching to read is a complicated and sensitive process for the teacher. When teaching the children, they may know the meaning of each word, but they may find some difficulties in getting the meaning of the whole paragraph. They are neither able to read nor comprehend the message of the text. Alderson (1984:1) stated that reading in a language which is not the learners’ first language is a source of considerable difficulties. Dlugosz (2000, p. 284) as quoted by Lukito (2007) affirms that introduction of reading in the early ages of children can increase children’s understanding of the foreign language. Therefore, parents and teacher should introduce reading activities from early ages.
