This research utilises the non-parametric frontier approach, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). By using such an analysis, the purpose of this study is to analyse the regional development banks' (BPDs) efficiency with the data during 2006-2007 covering 26 BPDs in Indonesia. In general, the result of study indicates that the level of efficiency of BPD is improving over time but still below optimal efficiency 100%. On avarage, the big-assets of BPD are found to be more efficient than the middle and small onest. The study provides important implications such as, guiding the BPD's policy regarding merger and bank intermediary. Since the study pinpoints the sources of inefficiency, it also helps to provide the banks with strategic planning.
