Music in Islam many times instigates a hot debate among Muslims. Is it sunnah, makruh or mubah to name a few of the Islamic jurisdictions on music. In fact, most people misunderstand the issue due to their limited knowledge on the history of arts in Islam. We overlook the wealth of Islamic arts and aesthetics that include literature, fine arts, architecture, music and songs in the Islamic civilization. Enjoying music, like other arts, needs a good sense and deep understanding of the artists' works. One can listen to the music and enjoy the rhythmic notes or further going deep into its essence. Prayers are sometimes rhythmical and that is considered musical as well. The influence of sufi in Indonesian culture is imminent too. Javanese and Malay are the example of two cultures that adopt the Islamic musical culture. Indeed, further studies are necessary for us to learn this issue to enrich our knowledge on Islamic civilization as a whole.
