Abstract
This study was conducted on the premise that the employee’s performance is important to develop an organization’s performance optimally. To achieve that, it is necessary to identify the factors that affect the employee’s performance. Theoretically, the employee’s performance is affected by many factors and two of them is leadership and work motivation factors. Therefore, this study was aimed to investigate the effect of leadership and work motivation on the employee’s performance with the object of the study being the employees of PT. Great Mining. The study used a survey method in which 30 employees served as respondents sampled by census techniques. Data were collected using questionnaires, the validity and reliability of which have been tested. The data were then analyzed descriptively and using regression and correlation for inferential statistics. Results of the study showed that leadership and work motivation either individually or collectively have a positive and significant impact on the performance of employees of PT. Great Mining. These findings show that the more effective the leadership is and the higher the work motivation is, the better the employees’ performance will be; whereas the less effective the leadership and the lower the work motivation is, the worse the employees’ performance is. It can now be concluded that the employees’ performance can be improved by managing leadership and work motivation. Based on these findings, leadership and work motivation need to be improved in order to improve employees’ performance. In regard to leadership, issues that need to be improved include matters related to conflict management, giving encouragement to employees, self-development, improvement of task structure, offering promotion for employees who excel, and always educating employees about a system mindset. In respect to work motivation, areas that need to be improved include matters related to how we act if a difficult task cannot be performed, how we see regular work, and postponing to complete the work.
