Current changes in the funding and support for educational research in England and Wales are having a profound effect on research projects in education. While this article focuses on developments in England and Wales the broader debate applies across many &dquo;policyscapes&dquo; (Ball, 1997) where increasing centralisation of control over educational policy and practice has brought the autonomy of educational research into question.
