This article describes the experience of three schools, an LEA and a university in the development of a partnership to provide a professional development programme for middle managers. Viv Garrett is a lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, Julie Warne and Alan Hewitt are senior managers at Oakwood and Dinnington schools respectively, and Martin Burgoyne is an advisory teacher with Rotherham LEA.
