For most people in work change is the order of the day. Not only is the nature of work changing rabidly but so too are the structures within which it is carried out. Added to this in local education authorities (LEA) there is a major change of role with a shift to a more strategic relationship with education and learning providers rather than a direct management role. If staff within LEAs are to respond successfully to the challenges now facing them they will need to become even more professional and this means that much greater attention will have to be paid to their development.
