Abstract
Materials handling activities holds a very important role in the activities of a company, this material handling activities require a very large cost to
operate but the activities itself doesn’t add any value at all to the final product. From the problem above, a prototype design of material handling equipment is proposed to overcome the problems.
Research problem is then elaborated on the identification of data requirements, then analysis for the concept is performed and found that the
concept of material handling equipment that using compression spring design concept is the better design concept compared to another proposed design concept.
A material handling design is build from the chosen design concept and then trials are conducted. Testing is done by considering the parameters of
distance and travel speed of the prototype material handling equipment. From the test results it was found that the farthest distance from the prototype is 1.8 meters and as far as the travel speed of material handling equipment is as fast as 0.53 m /
sec.
