The idea for this conference developed from concerns that in recent years social class seems to have fallen off the educational agenda. The day aimed to provide an opportunity for academics, policy-makers, practitioners and users of research to come together to discuss research, policy and practice relating to working class groups and education. The day was structured so as to enable discussion of issues across primary, secondary and post-compulsory sectors. Special attention was drawn to ethnicity and gender within notions of social class.
