This is an account of a novel way of evaluating the changes that took place in a school as a result of the DfES initiative, Excellence in Cities (http://www.dfes. gov.uk/index.htm). The evaluation was conducted by lower sixth formers (pupil-researchers), who learned the techniques required at a university, and who submitted their evaluations for university credit –which they succeeded in getting whilst gaining useful experience for their UCAS application.
