Isi artikel
Narrative accounts given in court and out-of-court commentaries are used to investigate lay beliefs about and expectations' of the American legal system. Investigation reveals considerable discrepancies between lay ideologies of law and those encoded within the legal system. Many litigants explain the dissonance between their own legal ideologies and the actual working of the legal system as due to errant judges and other legal officials rather than as ideological conflict.
