Isi artikel
Three versions of the same tale of Spanish origin, narrated by three different speakers in two different Mayan languages (Mam and Teco), are compared. Analysis of the three versions suggests that in addition to individual stylistic variation, there are differences in the renditions which can be attributed to the fact that Mam is a viable language while Teco, in Mazapa, is dying.
