This paper intends to show that three Maya glyphs on the lower half of Tikal Altar 8 can be construed as a reference to the Maya underworld, Xibalba, and to use this construction as a vehicle for discussing some aspects of the Mayan afterworld and its name, including a proposal for its linkage both to the Milky Way and to a Mayan word for road.
