Several early stelae at Copan present an interesting feature not frequently found elsewhere in the inscriptions; the ISIG is repeated several times on the same monument, but does not just appear at the beginning of the text. This paper considers several aspects pertinent to an analysis of this reiteration as found in Stelae 15, P and 7, such as, the occurrence of the ISIG in these monuments, its distribution over the area of text, the arrangement and/or stylization of the component elements. Some comments will be offered as to function, reading and interpretation.
