Isi artikelPersonal anecdotes concentrate attention and produce involvement. This study shows their use by American university professors to achieve specific content-oriented and interactional goals. It then compares the structure of professorial anecdotes to Labov and Waletzky (1967) and Labov's (1972) model for American English narrative and their framing to Goffman's (1974) frame analysis of everyday anecdotes. It shows direct relations between the specialities in their function, structure, and framing.
