Abstract
Benign prostatic hyperplasia will increase urethral resistance causing patient to strain when urinating thus increasing the intra abdominal pressure provoking an inguinal hernia to arise which may increase in size and appear as a scrotal hernia (giant hernia). As for incidence of inguinal hernia in men with BPH is merely 15 – 25%. According to many clinical studies, transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the gold standard surgical procedure for BPH and free tension hernia repair is the chosen technique for scrotal hernia. But, controversy happens when these disorders comes a combination in which confusing the surgeon and anesthesiologist in planning the chronology of the therapy for this patient. On this paper, we will review a case of 80 years old patient suffering from BPH and scrotal hernia at the same time who undergone a TURP surgery which was continued by a non tension hernia repair under spinal anesthesia.
