Isi artikel
As evidenced by official statements such as the above, as well as by federally funded programs such as Fatherhood Initiative and increasingly popular social organizations such as Promise Keepers, the family role of fathers has become a national concern in recent years. Some scholars and policy makers, from both conservative and liberal camps, have identified uninvolved fatherhood as the root of a myriad of contemporary social problems and called for strengthening fathers’ roles in the family as a solution. Yet, the nature of fatherhood and how fathers matter for children’s development are complex aspects of contemporary social life that have not been adequately understood even with the burgeoning literature on fatherhood in the last decade.
