Isi artikel
As feminists in the academy, it is appropriate for us to pause periodically and take stock of where we stand and the progress we have made and to clarify and refocus on our goals. Early in the second wave of feminism, white middle-class feminists struggled for the right to work. Women of color pointed out that they had the “right” to work and championed recognition of the interrelated nature of all oppression: sexism, racism, ageism, and so on. Feminist work at its best makes social structures and institutions more hospitable to women and those who are regarded as other or different; feminist work at its best seeks fundamental social transformations, including the creation of new structures and institutions that affirm and celebrate the richness that difference and diversity embody.
