Abstract
Implicature is one of pragmatic notions. It is not always easy to transfer implicatures found in a source text into a target text. The source texts used for the study are two novels of Daniell Steel's. One is taken from Five Days in Paris and its translation Lima Hari di Paris and the other one is some chapters from Kaleidoscope and its translation Kaleidoskop. The purpose of this qualitative study is to discover some problems that occur in the transfer of implicature in terms of whether the problems arise due to pragmaliguistic or sociopragmatic failure and whether or not the transfer of the implicatures of the source text implicatures yield the same implicatures in the target text.
It is found that there are twenty implicatures considered problematic. The problem identified is that there are pragmaliguistic and sociopragmatic failures which occur in the transfer of the implicatures. Twelve fall into pragmaliguistic failures and eight sociopragmatic failures. The failure to transfer the implicatures leads to the inaccuracy of the translation product.
