Isi artikelThe Tamils follow some of the most uncommon practices associated with personal names. This paper describes the components of a Tamil personal name, namely, given name, initials, and caste name, showing how they are used and how they contribute to the diversity of forms that a Tamil name takes. It is suggested that standardizing the structure and use of personal names would benefit the Tamils themselves and non-Tamil scholars and officials who may deal with their names.
