Insufficient attention has been given in the past to the social and psychological aspects of classifier usage in languages, and to the different ways in which classifiers can be deviantly used in languages in order to achieve special effects. This paper raises such aspects of classifier usage for Cantonese, and suggests possible new areas of research in Chinese and other classifier languages.
