Occupational exposure to dusts and fumes that contain lead (Pb) compounds is a frequent concern of medical personel who evaluate workers in a variety of accupational and environmental settings. Exposure usually is from inhalation of dust or lead axide fumes. An understanding of hematologic aspects of lead poisoning is important, because the erytrocytic cells of the bone marrow and peripheral blood represents a major target for lead toxicity.
