Abstract
The simplest and most obvious effects of stress in works are the declining of employees' motivation and productivity. The motivation is mandatory for employees to create enthusiasm to work. The productivity emerges as effective or emotional responses to the works conducted by the employees. High work loads will create stress to employees. The stress is also caused by conflict of works, length of working hours, characteristic of works, team support and leadership influence. This survey is intended to test the impacts of stress in works as independent variable to motivation to work as intervening variable and to employees' productivity, as dependent variable. A questionnaire to test the independent variable, the intervening variable and the dependent variable has been developed by the researcher on the basis of theoretical assessment. The validity of statements in the questionnaire has been sufficiently tested. Respondents of this survey are all the employees of PT Radio Indika Millenia, involving thirty six respondents which responses are all submitted correctly therefore valid for further assessment. Results of this survey indicates that, on the first hypothesis, the stress in works (due to conflict of works, load of works, length of working hours, characteristic of works, team support and leadership influence) simultaneously affect employees' productivity. (Y) significantly, as indicated that the Fcount (2,757) is greater than Ftable (2,4324), which is at simultaneous probability of error (F-test) of alpha 5% indicates error probability/ of 3%, which is less than 5%. The second hypothesis indicates that the stress in works (due to conflict of works, load of works, length of working hours, characteristic of works, team support and leadership influence) simultaneously does not affect employees' motivation (Z) significantly. This is indicated by the Fcount (1,142) less than Ftable (2,4324) with simultaneous probability of error (F-test) of alpha 5% indicates error probability, of 36,4%, which is more than 5%. The third hypothesis indicates that the stress in works (due to conflict of works, load of works, length of working hours, characteristic of works, team support and leadership influence) and working motivation (Z) simultaneously affect employees' productivity (Y) significantly. This is indicated by the Fcount (4,110) more than Ftable (2,3593) with error probability of 0,3%, which is less than 5%. The fourth hypothesis indicates that the stress in works (due to conflict of works, load of works, length of working hours, characteristic of works, team support and leadership influence) partially does not affect employees' productivity. (Y) significantly, as indicated by error probability, of each variable of the stress in works (conflict of works, load of works, length of working hours, characteristic of works, team support and leadership influence) greater than 5%. The fifth hypothesis indicates that the variables of stress in works (conflict of works, load of works, length of working hours, characteristic of works, team support and leadership influence) partially do not affect employees' motivation (Z) significantly, however specifically the conflict of works (Xl) variable has partial effect to the work motivation (Z) significantly as indicated by error probability, of the conflict of works, variable (Xl) of 5%. The sixth hypothesis indicates that the working motivation (Z) variable has significant effects to the employees' productivity. (Y), as indicated by error probability, of 0,1%. Based on the regression analysis of the effect of the stress in works variables (conflict of works, load of works, length of working hours, characteristic of works, team support and leadership influence) to work motivation and employees' productivity, at PT Radio Indika Millenia, it can be proven that too low or too high stress in works results in low employees' productivity. The conclusion is that excessive stress to employees will result, in frustration to the employees that lead to lower performance, on the other way around too low stress level will result in lack of motivation to perform.
